Day 45 - Going Native, No Boat

We continue to wait for the boat to get fixed with no end in sight.  This morning we had to move hotels because ours could not be extended.  We moved to the main hotel in town by the main park.  It is nice to be closer to everything now ... and it has a nice patio and breakfast area.

Today, I began to connect slowly to the real world by checking emails and doing a little work.  We visited our favorite spot by the ocean for cappuccinos and a swim and had a picnic on the ocean embankment to watch the sunset.  A very nice way to end the day.

Our activities now boil down to observing life around us, talking to the locals about their jobs and lives, and just passing time enjoying a foreign country that is becoming more and more familiar every day.

Today, I went to the fruit and vegetable market, met a fisherman coming back from the ocean on his wooden long canoe with his catch to sell with an interesting life story, and met an entire family with everybody in tow visiting Nickerie from Paramaribo and we had a lot of fun with them.

The uncle also happened to be the immigration officer at the boat port.  He offered to give us the insight information as soon as he knew something and gave us his personal direct number.

As of this writing, we do not know whether the boat is sailing tomorrow.  There are rumors that it may so we need to be ready to go just in case.  Also, there is a big event in town starting tomorrow and all the hotels are full so we may not have a place to stay if the boat does not go ... one day at a time!
