Some of the interesting items packed for this adventure include a mosquito net (not a fan of malaria), very detailed maps of the jungle loaded into my GPS, motorcycle gear that is light with lots of vents for the heat, a large lithium battery to power and recharge anything when in the middle of nowhere, a satellite tracker and two-way messenger for emergencies, and a large water bag/bladder to carry enough “good” water to stay hydrated and avoid getting the “runs.”
I decided not to take my airbag vest because it is way too hot and if it deploys, it cannot be recharged in the wild. Also, the terrain is likely to be tough in some areas and the gyroscope in the vest may think I am falling and blow up. So, I am back to traditional padding and Kevlar all around for protection.
One of the things I was thinking about as I was getting ready is how some of my most unique/strange life experiences always occur when I am deep in nature on a motorcycle.
These experiences center around the realization that, when deep in nature, everything around me is me, and that I am part of everything around me. In these moments, time seems to stop and memories through these feelings are permanently imprinted.
As if consciousness evolved through humans (like a wave forming from the ocean) in a way that we often forget that we are part of the ocean. Daily life gets us trapped in believing that we are only what we are, separate from everything else. These motorcycle moments in nature are like glimpses back to the ocean we are part of.
Made it to Cali after a very tight connection in Miami. Nice and warm with the friendliest and nicest people in the world. I just remembered I have been here twice before. Lots of memories.
